Building in the built environment

Building in the built environment
Residential program in Barriera di Milano, Torino 2019

The project ''Building in the Built Environment'' was carried out during the Architectural Construction Studio course. It was required to design a cohousing building in Barriera di Milano, a district of Torino. The first part of the project was developed in a group of four students.

The idea of ''Bond and Involve'' project is to connect four residential buildings with common spaces such as a shared kitchen, a living room, a study room, a gym and a common loundry.
All shared spaces are located in the main building and the bridge. The bridge structure is made of wood and it is the main theme of the project. Designing public facilities and an open space on the ground floor level is a specific characteristic of this project.
The second part of the project was developed individually and was focused on a specific part of the building. Each of the students had to present the structure and materials of the portion of the building according to specific requirements suiting the city climate.

In my project the main focus is how to connect the reinforced concrete structure of the building with the structure of the bridge that is made of cross laminated timber in order to make it lighter by design. To avoid collapse and to better connect the bridge to the building, I used the expansion joint located between both structures.
In the end I show the horizontal section, the vertical section and the elevation in scale 1:20 of a chosen portion of the building.
